Our SJA Rec Soccer Program, designed for beginner and intermediate players, encourages skill development in a supportive environment. It is open to athletes who are not currently participating in travel or club soccer.
Welcome to the SJA Rec Soccer Program!
The SJA Rec Soccer Program is designed for beginner and intermediate players and offers a fun, supportive environment to build skills and a love for the game. Participation is open to athletes who are not currently on travel or club teams, or playing in the SJA Middle School Soccer program.
Practice & Season Dates
Practices begin the last week of August, and the season concludes the first week of November. Weekly practice sessions are held at St. James Academy, with days and times determined by each team’s coach. Games take place on Saturdays at Carroll Manor Rec Council (CMRC) fields.
Age Groups
Teams are organized by birth year, not grade level. SJA fields U8, U10, and U12 boys and girls teams through our partnership with CMRC. Players may choose to play up in a higher age group if preferred. Team placement is made by the Athletic Director based on each player’s age and experience. Please note: SJA’s ability to form teams in each division depends on reaching minimum registration numbers.
Important Note for 5th Graders
If your 5th grader is playing Middle School Soccer for SJA, they are not eligible to play on the Rec Team.
Volunteers Needed
Our program depends on parent volunteers. Please consider joining us as a coach, assistant coach, or team manager—we’d love your support!
Kindergarten Eligibility
Kindergarten students who participated in the Hot Shots or a similar program as PK4 students last year are eligible for the Rec Soccer Program.
Hot Shots Program
The Hot Shots program is for boys and girls ages 4–5 (born in 2020 or 2021). This clinic-style introduction to soccer is open to PK and Kindergarten students who have turned four by the start of the season.
Season Dates: Starts the first Saturday after school begins and runs through the last Saturday in October
Focus: Emphasizes fun, fundamentals, and basic soccer skills
Location: Practices held at SJA
Cleats: Not required but highly recommended
