Welcome. This is the first Student Council President blog for St. James Academy. I thought this might be a good idea to help our students and parents see what we do throughout the year.
Each May students in grades 3-8 elect the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Historian for the following school year. Then at the end of September each class votes and chooses a boy and a girl as their individual representatives to the Council.
The role of the Council is to be a voice for the student body and organize events throughout the year. The Council sponsors our Casual Dress Days and donates goods for bake sales during the year to help raise funds for fun student activities.
The Council had our kick-off meeting in July at the Manor Tavern with Mr. Adler, Mrs. Davis and Mr. Wright. We set out our basic plans and goals for the year and are excited to share them with the elected class representatives at our initial October meeting. Our biggest goal is to extend a lot of our activities to the entire student body, while putting a creative spin on traditional Middle School dances and activity nights.
We have scheduled dates on the calendar for our first ever Middle School Movie Night (October). Middle School Dances, Holiday themed bake sales, and our big event…a Spring Carnival for all of our students (save the date, April 24!) I will blog at the beginning of each month to let you know about Casual Dress Days, bake sales and other student events.
Our first event will happen in September with an Outdoor Teen Center for the Middle School on September 26. We plan to have s’mores and a bonfire to celebrate the beginning of the year. Whether this is your first year at St. James or your last, I wish you all the best and am excited to be your President.
