Why did you want to become a teacher?
“For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher. I love working with children especially first grade. They still believe in the magic of life and exploring the world around them with great enthusiasm!”
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
“In my spare time I love spending time with my beautiful large family, as well as turning my yard into gardens of flowers and vegetables, where we as a family, spend most of the summer. I also love to try new recipes using the gifts from my garden for my family and friends!”
Who inspired you growing up?
“I think my mom inspired me the most in life. She was widowed at a young age and had five young children to take care of at home. She was always there for us, a driving force for higher level education, as well as providing us with determination, perseverance, and love of family.”
If you could meet one famous person who would it be and why?
“If I could meet one famous person past or present, I think it would be Helen Keller. I greatly admire the way she overcame many obstacles, and became an inspiration for all individuals facing huge hurdles in life.”
What do you want the students to learn from you?
“I hope my students take away from their first grade year that learning can be fun. I also hope they take the Life Skills we use in class and apply them now and in the future. Finally, I want them to feel that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to, but always remember to keep a good sense of humor through all of life’s ups and downs!”
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
“I am one lucky person, as I have a beautiful large family, that loves to get together as often as possible. Whether we spend time together for birthdays, holidays, sleep overs with the little grandchildren or monthly dinner dates with the two older granddaughters, I love spending time with my family! One tradition we started several years ago is one of their favorites. After seeing all the presents they got on Christmas from Santa, and other grandparents, my husband I decided to give only a few small gifts and instituted, The Choice Board. Each child receives a board with four tags, which they named adventure tags. The tags have places or adventures that will take place all throughout the year. We have had so much fun over the last few years creating memories together!”
