Mrs. Dewlin has her Masters of Arts in Education from Goucher College and has taught for over the past twenty years. She has served as a Special Educator/ Resource Teacher in Baltimore, Carroll, and Harford counties.
Why did you want to become a teacher?
I always admired my teachers as I grew up, especially the ones that were patient, caring, and creative. I have always enjoyed helping others and wanted to share my patience, care, and creativity as a Special Educator / Resource Teacher!
What do you enjoy doing on your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy visiting one daughter in New York City where she is a graphic designer, and frequently visit our other daughter’s roof- top deck in Canton, when she is not too busy, working as a high school counselor.
I love to read, cook, entertain, and am taking piano lessons.
St. James Church is my second home where I volunteer on the Entertaining Angels Committee. I am the Chair of the St. James Fine Art Shows, serve on a Coffee Hour team, usher, and will be helping with receptions for The Friends of St. James Music committee.
On sunny days, my husband and I enjoy taking drives in our 1931 Ford Model A. We also love spending time at my mother’s second home, in Bethany Beach!
Who inspired you growing up?
My mother taught first grade for 30 years and inspired me to teach! Her creativity with cooking, entertaining, and her “Martha Stewart style” continues to be my inspiration …just ask anyone about her, at St. James Church!
My dad has been my inspiration for family, fun, music, and laughter. He was an Eagle Scout and always taught me to be “trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent”
If you could meet one famous person who would it be and why?
It is a toss-up between Martha Stewart …my Mom’s mentor or visa versa…and Henry Ford. The simplicity of my husband’s adorable car continues to amaze me!
What do you want the students to learn from you?
I hope that the children I work with will feel confident, be risk takers, and will follow their dreams!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
Most people do not know that I used to babysit for Jim Palmer’s daughters, when I was 16 years old …for 75 cents an hour! I sat with him in his kitchen once after a game, while he ate a peanut butter sandwich on pumpernickel bread! Let’s Go O’s!!
