SJA ALUM CLASS OF ’07

St. James Academy alumni
Education after SJA: Bryn Mawr School; Tufts University, with study abroad in Kenya and Switzerland

Favorite Memory:

“It’s hard to choose just one! I have very fond memories of studying American history in 5th grade – learning Longfellow’s ‘Paul Revere’s Ride’ poem, being divided into the North and South as we studied the Civil War, and marching around outside dressed in ‘uniforms.’ It was a very active and exciting way to learn!”

How has SJA prepared you for the future?

“St. James has a sense of community unlike any other. I had a chance to know all my teachers well, not just in an academic setting but also on a personal level. In high school and in college, then, it was easy to approach my teachers and professors and form strong relationships with them, which has been one of the most enjoyable (and academically helpful) aspects of my education. SJA also taught me where there’s a will, there’s a way, a lesson that has been invaluable.”

Career Highlights:

“My first real work experience was an internship at Teach for America’s Baltimore office. More recently, I interned at the Maryland State Department of Education, where I co-wrote a policy proposal about social emotional learning and presented it to the governor. I have also volunteered as a teaching assistant in South Africa, and I’m currently interning at the UNESCO International Bureau of Education in Geneva.”
