Career highlights: My first job was in Kindergarten, then I was an ELL/Severe Needs paraprofessional for a year before I got my first teaching job. I taught for 4 years in Colorado in the district that I attended as a child. I also taught for a year in Baltimore County before coming to St. James.

What does St. James Academy mean to you? I love the sense of community. I really feel like everyone (faculty, parents, and students) works as a team to make sure the students are successful.

What do you want the students to learn from you? I want my students to be able to feel like they have a full “tool box” that they can pull from to solve any problem given to them. If I can provide them with the basic tools, they will be able to tackle any math challenge.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Walking or hiking with my husband and my two golden retrievers. I enjoy changing/decorating my house. I repaint furniture or recover pillows.

Who inspired you growing up? My grandmother. She was a teacher and shared many stories of her time in the classroom and the students that still write to her. She read more than anyone I knew, and I have always dreamed of reading as many books as she has. Now she is 95 and still going strong. She still reads and does the crossword every day along with keeping up with her many friends. She is still my inspiration!

If you could meet one famous person who would it be and why? I think it would be really cool to meet an old English king or queen and talk to them about what life was like for them.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know. I grew up in Frisco, CO which has a population of around 2,000. Even though it is within 30 minutes of 5 major ski resorts, I didn’t ski until I was about 16. I had started learning when I was 4 and then got frightened one time and didn’t go again until I was 16.
