Rec Council Soccer
There will be Boys and Girls Under 11, Under 10 and Under 8. Games are held at St. James and Carroll Manor on Saturday mornings and early afternoons. Each coach sets the practice schedule for their team, and generally, there are 1-2 practices per week. All players must have shin-guards, cleats and a water bottle for practices and games.
All teams are coached by parents of the players and there are many opportunities to get involved as a coach, assistant or volunteer. The program emphasizes the Positive Coaching Alliance with the focus on the joy of soccer and teaching life lessons through sports. The goal is to have children look forward to practice, playing real games, building relationships and learning sportsmanship.
The clinic is an entry level program for both boys and girls ages (4 and 5) with the focus on ball handling skills and basic rules of soccer (kicking, passing, hands-free, sidelines, overhead throws, positions). The first 3-4 weeks consist of skills and drills and progress to mini-games for the remainder of the season. All practices are at the Pony Ring on Sunday mornings. At this level, we need multiple parents to help coach the children. This is an introductory level to soccer and no coaching experience is necessary. We just want the children to have fun! This is COED with no real games. The Coach will determine the practice times. The season will run August-November.
