Frequently Asked Questions

When should we begin the admission process?

Attend an Open House, schedule a private tour by calling the Admission Office, or join us for Walk-in Wednesdays. Inquiries can be made at any time. The Admissions Office is always interested in speaking with prospective families!

How is the admission decision made?

Once the applicant’s file is complete all information is carefully reviewed by the SJA admission committee. The committee is comprised of the Director of Admission, the School Counselor, and Lower and Middle school faculty. All decisions are issued at the discretion of the Head. The notification date is Friday, February 19, 2016 for the first round of applicants.

Does my child need to take an admission test?

Students who apply to SJA will engage in an individual admission screening. Those applying to Kindergarten, Prefirst, or First Grade will meet with the Director of Admission. Applicants to Grade Two – Eight schedule a shadow visit to SJA and will have an admission screening with the Resource Coordinator during that visit day. Observations and screening results are shared with parents at a mutually convenient time. All applicants are required to submit a Referral Form completed by the current teacher(s). Applicants to Grade Two – Eighth also submit a copy of their complete school transcript, standardized test scores, and individual educational evaluations, if applicable.

Applications for financial assistance are due January 15th. Considerations are made by the finance committee of the Board of Trustees.
