Activities Inspire Students To Explore, Play, Perform, Design, Build, And Learn

After-School Club Chess Club

Students in grades 3 through 5 are invited to participate in Knights of the Checkerboard Chess Club. Chess players of all levels are welcome to join. Boards will be provided or bring your own. A light snack will also be provided for your child.

Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts

Coordinated by SJA parents, these clubs are for boys and girls in our lower school. The goal is to develop well-rounded individuals while building courage, confidence, and character.

Junior Maker Club

This design club is for boys and girls in grades 1 through 4. Students will participate in a new project each week that encourages creativity and design thinking.

LEGO League

Students in grades 5 through 8 use critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to work together and create innovative solutions to real-world scenarios. The team competes in annual contests.

Mast Tennis Academy

Learn how to play tennis from an expert. This program is focused on developing each player’s game while helping improve the fundamentals. All skill levels are welcome!

Middle School Clubs

Middle School Clubs provide students with an opportunity to explore specific areas of interest. These clubs might include art, chess, classic films, cooking, dance, debate, engineering, fitness, maker “design” club, television and radio, and yearbook club.

Middle School Sports

Middle School athletics begin in 5th grade. Students have the opportunity to choose from 15 teams in 12 sports over the three-season year. Participation in our interscholastic athletics program is integral to the SJA experience.

Music Lessons

Private instrumental and vocal lessons are offered by professional musicians. Research has found that early musical training helps develop areas of the brain related to language and reasoning. We offer lessons in a variety of instruments and voice. Please contact Randi Martin for more information.

Rec Lacrosse

St. James Community Lacrosse is the oldest lacrosse club in the state of Maryland and has become the primary place for students to learn the fundamentals of the game, to develop their skill set, and most importantly, to have fun.

Rec Soccer

St. James Rec Soccer’s quality program focuses on soccer skill development at all levels. Students are taught the fundamentals of the game while having fun. More information available here.

Running Club

SJA Running Club is for students in grades 2 through 4. The program promotes the love of running. Students will set goals each week and the club concludes with a 1-mile run at SJA!

Lower School Science Club

This club is for students in grades 2 through 5. Students will participate in several hands-on science experiments that will spark their love of science and boost investigative skills.

Theatre

We produce three after-school musicals per year. This program is a great opportunity for students to explore and express their artistic and dramatic talents. Students have been involved in everything from Fiddler on the Roof to The Magic Tree House. Learn more about our Performing Arts Program.
