SJA Faculty in the Community

By 2016-2017 School Year No Comments

unnamedMany of our faculty participated in community service projects this fall by providing countless hours of talent and dedication in order to contribute to the larger framework of our world. On Election Day, faculty gathered at the Maryland Agriculture Center to husk specialty corn and built bat boxes here at the school. In October, faculty gathered at First Fruits Farm in Freeland to help with the gleaning of the fields. Others have spent time working individually on projects for other non-profit organizations. The volunteerism that our faculty has shown is a part of an initiative from our Faith in Action committee to develop programs for our students that promote service learning.

Last night we were delighted to come together as a community for a special screening of Screenagers. This movie challenged and engaged us in learning and soul searching through a compelling body of research, as well as, personal stories of parents and children struggling with questions related to our existence in the digital era.  Please visit the Screenagers website for further information and additional resources and guidelines. Special thank you to our Patrons Board who made this event possible. Thank you!

Honoring Our Legacy ~ Strengthening Our Future Campaign publicly launched with a primary focus on increasing support for faculty and growing the endowment. The campaign will also focus on strengthening our athletic programs and facilities and growing our annual fund.

With our idyllic setting, engaged students, committed families and strong academic credentials, it may be difficult for some to see the rising challenges SJA is facing. Like many nonprofits, SJA works hard each year to balance a budget that achieves its mission and keeps our tuition low. But that leaves little room to fulfill dreams for the future, or worse, to sustain the vagaries of the economy.

SJA, busy building facilities, must now focus on growing its endowment to best prepare for the future. The time is now. SJA’s momentum, urgent need, and strategic plan all align. Parents, alumni, trustees, staff and faculty agree on one vital goal: to provide a superb, well-rounded education for our children, now and going forward.

The campaign goal, $5,200,000, is ambitious, but given the Academy’s reputation and record of support, our leaders are optimistic about its success. For more information about the campaign and to make a gift, please click here!
