Patrons’ Association

Patrons AssociationParticipation by parents, grandparents, alumni, and alumni parents in many aspects of the school enhances each student’s sense of being part of a larger framework of life and the community. The Patrons’ Association provides countless hours of talent and dedication to our children, as well as sponsors memorable events for the community.

Successful fundraising and friend raising in 2013-2014 raised $80,000. These funds support the arts, athletics, and technology programs, endowment growth, and child-oriented activities that might otherwise only be dreams. A cooperative partnership with parents creates close and nurturing relationships among all constituents of our school. The Academy sincerely appreciates volunteers who make such a difference each year!

FOXHOUND FESTIVAL – food, live music and lots of fun!

Date: Second Friday of September 5pm – 8pm

Foxhound Fall Festival Come celebrate the beginning of the year! Share your summer stories with all of your friends from school and church and make some new friends! This will certainly be a night to remember…and best of all…you don’t have to cook! There will be plenty of food, games, crafts, face painting and live music! Don’t forget to bring a blanket! See you at the Pony Ring!

ST. JAMES ACADEMY ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SHOPPE AND CAFE

Date: Second weekend in November
Friday: Shoppe & Cafe: 10am-8pm |  Gourmet Dinner: 8pm
Saturday: Shoppe & Cafe: 10am-4pm

Christmas Shoppe at sjaFor two days each year, the Patrons’ Association transforms the school into an exclusive shopping and dining experience:  the St. James Academy Christmas Shoppe & Cafe!  This beloved annual tradition is one of our school’s largest fundraisers; proceeds directly benefit our students and programs.

On Friday evening, the SJA Culinary Crew serves their signature Christmas Shoppe Gourmet Dinner.  Treat yourself to a fabulous five course dining experience, that includes a selection of super hors d’oeuvres, soups, salads, and entrees, followed by a delectable dessert bar.

For wine lovers – the Gourmet Dinner would not be complete without our extensive wine menu.  Here you will find wines recommended by SJA parents and faculty.  Purchase your favorite wine by the glass, share a bottle at your table or take home a case for holiday entertaining. GRANDPARENTS & FAMILY FRIENDS DAY

Date: Tuesday before Thanksgiving 9am – 12pm

Grandparents-and-family-friends-dayA favorite for our students! Grandparents and family friends join students in their class rooms so the children can showcase what they have been studying. Our guests are also treated to a breakfast reception in Macdonald Hall, followed by the annual Thanksgiving Liturgy in the St. James Center.

Join us as a volunteer…help decorate, serve and clean up in Macdonald Hall.

 

 

JINGLE BELL JUNCTION

Date: Second Friday in December 8:30am – 3:00pm

Jingle Bell Junction at St. James This event is one of our favorite events of the year, for children and adults alike! The Susan Tucker Moore Theatre is transformed into a Winter Wonderland where all of the children, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade, are allowed to “shop” for holiday gifts for their close family members by themselves. (Kindergarteners & Prefirst students are given a little assistance from their 4th & 5th Grade buddies). Each gift is $1 and is actually a “recycled” gift donated by you and other generous families. Throughout the year, we accept donations of slightly used items (toys, jewelry, books, ties, golf balls,movies, etc.) that will be sold during this one-day holiday shopping extravaganza!! So don’t hesitate to clean out your closets now!

Join us as a volunteer...if you’re incredibly organized we can use your help all year long…perfect for a working parent or someone who stays at home…since our complimentary storage unit is available when you are!

Volunteers are also needed to set up the day before the event, assisting children and wrapping the gifts the day of the event, and of course all of the necessary clean up following the event! Please consider a set up or clean up shift…as we all know, Santa can’t work in a messy shop!

 

ST. JAMES ACADEMY GALA

Date: Late Winter/Early Spring…every other year

galaThe Gala began nearly 20 years ago on a crisp October evening here on the St. James campus. A Little Bid of England started an elegant tradition of fundraising evenings every other year. The gala has grown into a spectacular event where you can expect all the magical elements…incredible atmosphere, delectable food, and one-of-a kind auction items! Past offerings have included an African Safari, a private 7 day cruise, a catered party at your home, fine jewelry, sports memorabilia, and much more! Our 2013 gala Nantucket Nights, under the direction of Angela Class and Jenny O’Connell, raised a record $145,000 all of which went directly back to the school for our children’s enrichment.

TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON

Date: Late Winter/Early Spring

Webster’s defines “hospitality” as “welcome, warm, kind, generous and friendly.” It’s almost as if Webster himself walked into St. James Academy and met Mr. Adler and the faculty and staff who surround him. The Teacher Appreciation Luncheon is our opportunity to return that same feeling to the staff at St. James…they nurture our children as if they were their own…an irreplaceable quality that is second nature or as parents have been known to say “It’s the St. James Way”. Each year Macdonald Hall is transformed…an Italian Cafe, a Mediterranean spa, a lovely tea garden, a spring picnic…where, the teachers and staff can relax and enjoy a leisurely meal (complete with adult conversation), served by our parents.

HORSE & PONY SHOW

Date: First Saturday in May 8:00am

St. James Academy Pony Show.In the 1920’s, a few well-organized ladies (over a good cup of tea, no doubt) decided it was about time to host a Horse & Pony Show in My Lady’s Manor. The beauty of the green grass against the pristine blue sky makes the perfect backdrop for the well groomed riders competing on perfectly appointed horses or ponies. And so, the tradition continues nearly every year since on the first Saturday of May. A beautiful day to share with your children…visit our stunning flower tent or enjoy a meal prepared by our own St. James Academy Culinary Crew, while cheering on SJA student riders!

Join us as a volunteer…assist the show committee and jump crew in getting the rings ready for the big day, including setting and resetting the jumps. This is rather physical work that will be done under the supervision of the chairs during the day, the week prior to the event. A great opportunity for Dads to volunteer!

The St. James Academy Culinary Crew will be serving breakfast and lunch for the riders and guests. Volunteers will be needed to assist with kitchen prep, slicing, dicing, cooking, grilling, serving, set up, and clean up. The Pony Show Booklet has become a photographic essay and moving tribute to graduating 8th graders and a great way to say goodbye to your teachers from the past years! Don’t miss the opportunity to share your memories! Join the team and help design and sell ads for the book! Volunteers are needed to follow-up with clients from previous years. So, if you’re energetic, detail-oriented, organized or just like to work with people…this is a great job for you…no advertising or sales experience needed!

Date: Open every day but Wednesdays 8:00am – 8:30am and 3:00pm – 4:00pm

The Pound is so much more than a shopping haven for those funky erasers! It is the place to find:

  • School supplies – replace that ripped folder your son has worn out
  • Consignment – when your daughter’s jumper has suddenly become a mini-skirt!
  • Spirit wear – buy a hoodie to wear to the soccer game
  • Gifts – give Grandpa a new SJA golf shirt
