The value of healthy living, physical fitness and teamwork are all-important components of St. James Academy's athletics and physical education programs. The lower grades focus on skill development through games such as basketball, dodge ball, tag and kickball. These activities also help students develop hand-eye coordination, an in-depth knowledge of teamwork, sportsmanship, as well as the rules for various team sports.

Middle school students can participate in interscholastic sports including: cross country, field hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball (intramural), lacrosse, tennis, golf and the Spirit Team.

The goals of our athletics program are to:

• Promote lifetime fitness behaviors by developing self-esteem and healthy competition;

• Encourage social skills while learning basic rules and strategies;

• Foster commitment, accountability to other members of the team, self-discipline, and sportsmanship.

• Exercise leadership among the athletes.

St. James Academy supports the mission of the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a nonprofit organization founded at Stanford University. With the mission to transform youth sports so sports can transform youth, PCA was created to transform the culture of youth sports to give all young athletes the opportunity for a positive, character-building experience.
