Welcome to an Empowering Education.Originally founded in 1821 and reestablished in 1957, St. James Academy is an Episcopal parish day school for children in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Located on 89 leafy acres in Monkton, Maryland, the school provides rigorous preparation for high school matriculation.
The St. James Academy offers:
- A Values-Based Philosophy
- Individualized Education
- Rigorous and Stimulating Academic Program, and
- Episcopal Identity
Our shared life journey educating children from five to fourteen occurs within a context of care and kindness. In this nurturing, supportive environment, teachers, staff and parents engage our students in meaningful dialogue to create experiences guided by developmentally appropriate practice.
With this strong foundation and the support of the entire St. James community, students
graduate well prepared to lead creative, compassionate, and productive lives.
The Academy is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education, accredited by the Association of Maryland Independent Schools (AIMS), and the Middle States Association (MSA).
We are a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association (MAESA), and the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES); as well as a proud International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Candidate School.
