Dear
Parents and Students,
St.
James Academy offers students several opportunities throughout the year to
socialize outside the school day. Teen
Centers are held in the St. James Center. Student Council sponsored dances are
held in Macdonald Hall. At Teen
Centers you may play basketball, volleyball, or ping-pong in the gym or enjoy
music provided by a DJ in the activity rooms.
Student Council dances do not include activities in the gym.
The following information has been compiled to help you know what to
expect. Please read and sign below
to indicate your agreement to support these activities with cooperation and a
spirit of fun. Return the signed portion to your advisor.
All dances will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m. There is a $8.00 charge per person.
This year’s teen centers are: September 21st,
October 26th , and January 25th .
This year’s Student Council sponsored dances are: December 19th , April 11th, and June 4th.
Once inside the building, all attendees must stay within
the designated inside areas.
1.
You are
welcome to bring one guest to Teen Centers. He/she must arrive with you and pay the same $5.00 admission
charge. Register his/her name and
emergency contact number when you sign in. Guests must conform to the SJA dress
requirements.
The June 4th Student Council
dance is closed to guests.
The December 19th and April 11th dances are open to
guests. Invitations, dress
requirements, and guest registration information will be distributed to students
as the dates approach.
The host student is responsible for his/her guest’s
conduct, entertainment, and safety.
2. Please use the bathrooms located next to the
gym during Teen Centers or bathrooms in the west wing during Student Council
dances. Use is limited to four students at a time.
3.
For Teen Centers, casual dress, considering the activities in which you
may be involved, is appropriate. Non-marking tennis shoes or socks only on the
gym floor. Student Council dances require dressier
(boys are to wear coat and tie) or thematic attire. Conservative judgment is
recommended. Students arriving in
inappropriate or excessively revealing attire will be provided with school gym
clothing. For girls, dresses or tops with thin straps at the shoulder may be
worn, though wider shoulder straps are preferred. Dress and skirt length should
be modest and well below fingertip length. Absolutely NO halter tops, low cut
fronts, backless, strapless, tight fitting stretchy fabric, or exposed midriffs
are permitted.
4.
Smoking or the possession and/or use of alcohol or drugs is illegal and
not allowed. If you arrive, with
smoking material, alcohol, or drugs
in your possession, you will not be allowed in and the police and/or your
parents will be notified.
5.
While we expect everyone to arrive ready for a relaxed, enjoyable evening
of socializing and game playing, we realize that
there may be an occasional problem. Depending
upon the problem any of the following consequences may occur:
·
A
chaperone will address the concern with the student;
·
You may
be asked to take a brief time-out to compose yourself;
·
Your
parents may be called to pick you up;
·
You may
receive a demerit in accordance with the Student Handbook
·
You may
lose the privilege of attending one or more social events.
