This 2-day annual event began over 20 years ago by a couple of teachers making craft items and now boasts over 120 vendors with more than enough items that Santa himself could shop here for virtually everyone on his list. From toys to handbags, shoes to collectibles, there truly is something for every age.

The Christmas Shoppe Café is an extraordinary dining experience that takes place in the midst of our Annual Christmas Shoppe.  The Culinary Crew prepare lunch and dinner that satisfies even the most critical epicure from the pickiest 5-year-old to your in-laws from out-of-town…bring the whole crew!
Join us as a volunteer…for the delicate transformation from school to marketplace; gym to cafe on Thursday. Volunteers are also needed for planning, setup, decoration, greeting, prep, cooking, grilling, serving, waiting and clearing tables, doing dishes, serving beverages – including wine & beer, coordinating the middle school volunteers and the ever-popular, and much-needed clean –up so that our children are ready to go back-to-school on Monday!

Library Assistants ~ Hobnob with Literary Giants

Days/times will be based on your schedule

Spring Book Fair May 8-10, 2012

Contact: Sharon Sansosti, Librarian

Enjoy peace and quiet? Like long walks in the afternoon? No…this isn’t some classified ad…it’s just a few great reasons why everyone likes volunteering in the library. This is one of the best kept secrets of volunteering! It’s quiet. You can do as little or as much as you want. Not YOUR cup of tea? How about inviting your parent or one of your in-laws to volunteer for this very special opportunity? The hours are very flexible: once a week, every other week, once a month or volunteers can be placed on call for special projects or events such as the book fair or special fundraising tasks like the box-top project or retail receipts. Tasks also include shelving books, laminating, preparing bulletin boards, photocopying, and word processing. Sound like Heaven? Yeah…pretty much!

This event is one of our favorite events of the year ~ for children and adults alike! The Susan Tucker Moore Room (our theatre) is transformed into a Winter Wonderland where all of the children, from Kindergarten through 8th grade, are allowed to ‘shop’ for holiday gifts for their close family members by themselves. (Kindergarteners & Pre-First students are given a little assistance from their 4th & 5th grade buddies.) Each gift is $1 and is actually a ‘recycled’ gift donated by you and other generous families. Throughout the year, we accept donations of slightly used items (toys, jewelry, books, ties, golf balls, movies, etc.) that will be sold during this one-day holiday shopping extravaganza!! So don’t hesitate to clean your closets now!

So if you’re a thrifty shopper or incredibly organized, we can use your help all year long – perfect for a working parent or someone who stays at home – since our complimentary storage unit is available when you are!  Volunteers are needed for setting up the day before the event , assisting the children and wrapping the gifts the day of the event and of course all of the necessary clean up following the event! Please consider a set-up or clean-up shift…as we all know, Santa can’t work in a messy shop! Thank you.

Teacher Appreciation & Family Events Committee

Time Commitment: maximum 2 hours per month; 1 or 2 events (based on your schedule)

Contact: Beth Preston

Webster’s defines “hospitality” as “welcome, warm, kind, generous & friendly.” It’s almost as if Webster himself walked into St. James Academy and met Dr. Legenhausen and the faculty and staff who surround her. It’s that kind of hospitality we aim to provide to each and every person beginning with Opening Day and continuing throughout the year. If you like to plan events, be creative, arrange food, design invitations, coordinate flowers, decorate or entertain ~ this could be the perfect place for you.

Horse & Pony Show ~ May 5, 2012

Time Commitment: 2 hours per month; until weeks prior to show
Show Committee & Jump Crew Contacts
: To be announced
Lunch House Contacts: The Culinary Crew
Booster Ad Sales Contacts: To be announced

In the 1920s, a few well-organized ladies (over a good cup of tea no doubt) decided it was about time to host a Horse & Pony Show in My Lady’s Manor. The beauty of the gentile green grass against the pristine blue sky makes the perfect backdrop for the well-groomed children on each perfectly appointed horse and/or pony. And so, the tradition continues nearly every year hence on the first Saturday of May. A beautiful day to share with your children, whether car, van, SUV, horse or pony is your preferred mode of transport! Join us and you will see what great ideas a couple of ladies and a few cups of tea can brew…

1) Volunteers are needed to assist the show committee and jump crew in getting the rings ready for the big day, including setting and resetting the jumps. This is rather physical work that will be done under the supervision of the chairs during the day the week prior to the event.

2) Once again, The Culinary Crew will be serving breakfast & lunch for the riders and guests. Volunteers will be needed to assist with kitchen prep, slicing, dicing, cooking, grilling, serving, setup and cleanup.

3) The Pony Show Book has become a photographic essay and moving tribute to graduating 8th graders and a great way to say goodbye to your teachers from past years! Don’t miss this opportunity to share your memories! Join the team and help design and sell the book for this year. Volunteers are also needed to follow-up with clients from previous years. So if you’re energetic, detail-oriented, organized or just like to work with people -- this a great job for you…no advertising or sales experience needed! This is a great fundraiser for our school.
