Dear Friends & Families of St. James Academy,
It has been my privilege to serve as Head of St. James Academy for twenty-one years. During this extended period, I have observed our community enjoying multiple blessings while overcoming numerous varied challenges. In the current turbulent economic times our families face fluctuating markets, decreasing or static real estate values, and job ambiguity. These are, however, obstacles that parents, students, and schools face courageously. How blessed we are to be gathered in this solidly grounded faith community!
The good news… St. James Academy is in sound fiscal health. We work annually with a balanced operating budget. Our 104,000 square foot facility is state-of-the art and in pristine condition. In addition, through prudent financial planning our Board of Trustees has created a reserve fund for plant maintenance. The board’s Investment Committee wisely monitors our modest endowment. A small contingency fund is in place for emergency financial assistance when needed to meet unforeseen circumstances. As always, the strength of our faculty and program continues. Be assured, St. James Academy is a safe and secure place for our students.
From a position of strength and cautious optimism the leadership of St. James Academy continues to assure that SJA thrives for our children. Therefore, fundraising, both our Annual Giving Campaign and our Patrons’ events, will continue. The dedication and hard work of our Patrons’ Association provides support for equipment, programs, and child-oriented activities. Just stroll into the renewed Zachary Sterling Lewis Playground. Watch the faces and hear the squeals of delight of our children as they run, climb, swing, and spin… all made possible through your generosity and a corporate grant.
SJA’s Annual Giving Campaign is a vital part of successful, balanced projected budgets. The Academy’s administration is most aware that giving will be more sacrificial for families this year. We understand. Annual gifts vary in size from twenty-five dollars to many thousands. Participation is always the most important aspect of our campaign. Thus, your generous support of our 2008-09 annual appeal is more strategically needed, sincerely valued, and heartily appreciated than ever. Hopefully, families who are able to give will even consider increasing their donations to help us reach our total goal of $150,000. Corporate matching gifts can provide added value to your gift dollars, as well. When selecting organizations to receive your charitable gifts, please prioritize St. James Academy and choose with your heart.
The Academy’s faculty and staff is cognizant of the anxiety that the current financial crisis causes. Our children watch television, browse the Internet, and overhear conversations. The very essence of this Episcopal parish school community mandates that we stand ready to support one another. This is the true test of our worth. With God’s help and the support and determination of our community, we will prevail with honesty and compassion.
