The
Mathematics curriculum at St. James Academy seeks to develop the full potential
of each student through an integrated program stressing basic skills,
application, critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving. Students are
encouraged to explore increasingly complex mathematical challenges which allows
them to develop an understanding of the order and structure of mathematics.
Emphasis is placed on number sense, problem solving, computation skills, and
data-analysis using drill and practice and real-life applications.
Developmentally appropriate uses of technology and estimation strategies are
stressed. Students are encouraged to metacognitively explain their thinking, as
well as show work.
