In the
French/Spanish curriculum at St. James Academy students are introduced to a listening
and speaking vocabulary structured in four - six units which begin in Kindergarten.
Vocabulary attributes include: colors; numbers; animals; clothing; food; body
parts; classroom objects; and weather. Vocabulary is sequentially developed and
reviewed each year. Students learn basic conversational phrases, songs, culture,
as well as customs and holidays.
The
Fourth grade curriculum culminates with an imaginary trip to Paris. Included in
the activities are packing a suitcase, passing through customs, taking a picnic,
visiting a grocery store, and ordering from a menu.
The World
Language curriculum is divided into one half year of French and one half year of
Spanish. Each semester begins with a concentration on conversation. Vocabulary is reinforced using a variety of
instructional techniques, activities, and games.
