Course description/overall objective:

Building upon previously learned musical concepts students develop music appreciation and literacy through singing 2 and 3 part songs; listening and responding to music from a variety of cultures; learning the language of musical criticism and analysis; reading, composing, and performing musical notation; and conducting and moving to a variety of rhythms, meters, and musical styles. Students prepare class songs for Grandparent’s Day, Christmas, Celebrate Arts Night and Class Tributes Assembly. Students’ original compositions are often included in drama and language programs.

 Concepts covered:

                        Dynamics, orchestral families, tone color, note duration, meter, melodic patterns and contours, ostinatos, form, polyphonic and homophonic textures, rhythmic patterns, syncopation, chord patterns, musical styles, vocal technique, Episcopal hymnody, and performance preparation.
