Course
description/overall objective:
Students
continue to develop music appreciation and literacy through singing 2 and 3 part
songs; reading and performing a variety of rhythmic and melodic notations;
identifying and playing differing forms of music; studying keyboard instruments
(piano, harpsichord, organ), chord structure, and vocal technique. Students
prepare class songs for Grandparent’s Day,
Christmas, Celebrate
Arts Night and Class Tributes Assembly. Students’ original
compositions are often included in drama and language programs.
Concepts
covered:
Dynamics, orchestral families, tone color,
note duration, meter, melodic patterns, form, melodic rhythm, rhythmic patterns,
interval identification, key and time signatures, major and minor scales,
musical styles, texture, vocal technique, Episcopal hymnody, and performance
preparation.
