Teacher:  Mrs. Williams

Grading Policy

Students receive an effort and letter grade for Art in the Middle School. Teacher and self-evaluation sheets will be completed after each unit. Each student is responsible for completing projects in order to receive full credit. Arrangements can be made with Mrs. Williams to come in before school or during lunch to work on missed or incomplete projects.

 Art units

Painting, 3-D mask and sculpture, drawing, ceramics, and crafts relating to South America, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Canada.

 Course Objectives

Many art projects will be integrated with the social studies units. Students will explore the use of art elements and principles to create 2-D and 3-D art forms. They will compare and analyze factors that influenced the various styles seen in the ancient cultures of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Mesoamerica, and Canada. A visit to Walters Art Gallery will enable the students to better understand a specific period, historical era and culture. This program strives for a sequential program of instruction based on the study of aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and most importantly, art production.
